Laura Burt

Volunteer & Training Coordinator

Laura is responsible for recruiting and supporting our volunteer team. Laura has spent over 20 years working in the voluntary sector for a variety of local and national charities, specialising in volunteer management and training. After retraining as an adult literacy teacher and seeing the impact that low literacy levels have first hand, Laura has focussed on working with voluntary organisations that support ESOL and literacy learners. This included seven years volunteering for the Shannon Trust supporting mentors in a variety of prisons to teach fellow inmates how to read and five years working for a London based charity managing a large team of volunteers who supported ESOL learners 1:1 to improve their English. Laura is committed to making reading accessible to everyone and encouraging a love of books.
